Restorative Yoga

Prepare yourself for deep relaxation. Restorative Yoga works to heal your body emotionally and physically. In Restorative Yoga "support = release" of muscle tension & mental stress, giving your body the opportunity to restore and refresh. Class is about slowly breathing into reclining yoga postures supported by bolsters, blocks, blankets and pillows. Your instructor will provide you with most of the props and guide you into setting up for each posture, assisting as needed to get that "ahhhhhhhh" comfort & relaxation. Participants will need to wear comfortable clothing; bring 2 throw pillows & a throw/blanket; eye pillows are available and may be purchased for $5. Relax...refresh...restore.

Rug Hooking 101 Beginner or refresher

Have you ever admired hooked rugs and thought you might enjoy making your own? In this one day introduction to punch and traditional rug hooking, you will hook your choice of leaf patterns inspired by fall colors. You will learn all the basics of materials, tools and techniques, and a little history besides. The goal is to provide you with a foundation in hooking with yarn or wool strips that can be compared to painting with wool. All materials are provided and frames and hooks or punches may be borrowed for the class with the option of purchase after. Veteran instructor, Judith Hotchkiss, will cover everything you need to know to complete the project and help you plan your next. This one day class has an optional follow up day in alternate location.

Designed with the mature person in mind, this class will address the components of over-all fitness at each person's ability level. The class aims at becoming stronger through cardiovascular activities (strengthening the heart and lungs), muscular strength and endurance (using weights) and flexibility through warm-up and cool-down stretching and yoga. This class meets regularly, and you can start and stop any time. Drop ins welcome. Donations welcome! No classes 3/13-3/20.

1-2 lb weights are recommended; comfortable clothes that let you move; gym shoes to give your feet support. Always check with your doctor before beginning an exercise program.

Transitional Wellness (Session 2)

Learn to separate fact from fad! In this 3-week course, you'll learn how important sleep, meditation, and exercise really are. You will learn how to nourish all your senses, get pantry basics, see how digestion works and how to shop for groceries. What you can expect by the end of these three weeks: become more focused, deal with stress and emotions better, maintain calm and balance, enjoy time management/simplify and organize your life, how to exercise with injuries, weight loss/keeping off the weight, curb sugar addictions and learn to prepare quick and tasty meals without spending a lot.

Wet Felting: Painting with Wool

Felting is one of the oldest fiber crafts. It is a process to create an object made with wool fibers. There are two types; needle felting (a dry process) and wet felting. In this workshop you will learn the process of both wet felting and needle felting. Adorn your handmade sheet felt with needle felted embellishments to create a wool painting to hang on your wall! This workshop is great for beginners and those who already have some felting experience. (Some upper-body strength is needed for the scrubbing process of wet-felting.) Students will take home a pack of needle felting needles and have the option to buy the foam block working surface.

Students are asked to bring two bath towels and $20.00 (cash or check) payable to the instructor, Audra Christie.

Woodworking Basics

Calendar Oct 24, 2018 at 6 pm, runs for 8 weeks

Designed for both the beginner and experienced woodworkers. Emphasis will be on fundamentals of tools, machines and materials to create projects. Safety will be our first priority in proper shop practices. Do you have some specific aspect of woodworking you are interested in learning; hand joinery, design, finishing, etc.? Come in with a project or work with the instructor to create one. You do not have to create a project to make this class a success. You can participate in this class just to learn the machines, joinery, both hand and machine tools, or some other aspect of woodworking you find interesting. Topics such as repairs, restoration and refurbishing of existing pieces will be covered for those interested. No class 11/21. Projects should be transportable. Participants are responsible for additional supply costs of their individual projects.

Wreath Making Workshop

Learn how to create wreaths and a garland in time for the holiday season. Students will use a 12” metal ring to produce a beautiful, fresh, double-faced 20-24” balsam fir wreath to take home. Join us for a fun filled class and learn the Maine tradition of "wreathing" under the guidance of a veteran Downeast wreath maker. Materials provided: freshly picked Maine balsam fir tips, ring, rope and wire. Students should bring gloves, small hand pruners and any ribbon or decorations they would like to use.
