Introduction to World Religions

$49

with Sonia Turanski

Calendar Mar 20, 2018 at 6 pm, runs for 8 weeks

When Neil Armstrong stepped onto the moon in 1969 he looked back at Earth to see one world without borders. Since that time the impact of technology, industry, and ecology have made it clear that we do indeed live in a 'global village.' This class will respectfully introduce students to seven of the major faith traditions: animism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism Judaism Christianity, and Islam. Looking at historical roots and current practices, our goal will be to gain a basic understanding of each tradition from within its own point of view, and to begin to see commonalities as well as the differences.

Sonia Turanski received her MA in Theology, with a focus on Comparative World Religions, from Bangor Theological Seminary in 2007. She has been an adjunct professor in World Religions and Philosophy at Eastern Maine Community College, has taught many adult education courses in and around the Blue Hill Peninsula, and has been a featured speaker at the 2008 gathering of the American Philosophical Association.
