Excel Basics

During this workshop, you will learn how to navigate a simple Excel worksheet, enter data in a worksheet, use basic math functions, do basic formatting, how to replicate data, use built-in functions and work with columns and rows.

Interested in working in an office, but don't know where to begin?
Learn office technology and workplace skills to prepare for a variety of administrative careers. We focus on medical office skills because healthcare is one of the fastest growing industries in Maine. However, the skills you learn in this program are transferable to any office / work setting.
Part 1 begins with office skills: Microsoft Office, communication, time and project management, QuickBooks, technical writing, email, office machines, and resumes and interviewing. New this year: Remote Work for ME, a four-hour training focused on critical skills on considerations for working remotely in Maine.

Part 2 Certified Medical Administrative Assistant. If you are interested in working in any medical office (medical, dental, eye, chiropractic), this national certification shows that you have the skills for success. Train with an experienced medical office administrator. You will use a model Electronic Medical Records system during training to build experience managing data bases and medical records.

• Common medical laws
• General medical office procedures

During this session, you will learn how to navigate multiple worksheets, save your workbook, create formulas, use functions, change the layout of your worksheet, and how to create practical worksheets. 1040 Income Tax – Maintain tax information that is very useful when preparing your annual tax return.

Grocery Shopping List – Quickly create a weekly grocery shopping list. What a time saver!
Contractor Estimate Calculator - Great tool for any contractor who has to provide estimates for customers.
Household Budget – Create a monthly budget of your household expenditures.

Excel Advanced

Take Excel further: hide data, split and freeze a window, create ranges, understand the name manager, use additional functions, copy and paste special, sort data, and learn the power of filters. Some examples of using Microsoft Excel as practical tools including the amortization table, 20 top functions companies want their employees to know, and pivot tables.

Excel Power Tools - Power Query, Power Pivot Tables & Power Business Intelligence

Power Query allows you to import and shape data. It has an easy to use interface, powerful tools to import and clean data.
Power Pivot Tables allows data modeling and calculations. It easily handles millions of rows of data and has modeling tools for efficient data storage and analysis.
Power BI (Business Intelligence) is a complete business intelligence tool. It features incredible visual options, has simple built-in interactive options, fantastic graphs and allows easy sharing of data.
The design of this course includes 2-3 hours of work with the software between classes to gain maximum benefits from the sessions.
You will want to have Microsoft Excel on your computer for this workshop and many people find it helpful to have two monitors, though it is certainly not necessary to benefit from the sessions. There are two ways to accomplish this: 1) attach an external screen to your computer (contact our program if you need technical assistance with that); or 2) using two computers (one for Excel and the other for the ZOOM meeting). This is a live, online class using ZOOM; makeup class, if needed, 01/30/25.
Val is a lifelong business educator and academic advisor focused on helping enrich and enhance students' educational and life purposes. He is experienced in college management and as an adult educator having taught at Mid-State College and Kennebec Valley Community College. His teaching experience covers over 45 years in the areas of computer applications, accounting, and Quickbooks training workshops.
