Unleash your creativity while preserving memories! This class offers tips on photo arrangement, journaling, and using various materials to make your scrapbook unique. We’ll explore beautiful layouts, personalized designs, fun embellishments, techniques, share ideas, and create a treasured keepsake. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned scrapbooker, you'll leave with a unique, handmade album and new skills to enhance your projects.  An 8x8 paper album will be provided—bring your 12-18 photos and enthusiasm!  Additional albums, embellishments and scrapbooking products will be available to purchase.  Children ages 8 or older are welcome with an adult.

Students will explore the ceramic technique of handbuilding to create unique, sculptural, textured vessels. Starting with a ball of clay, participants will learn the basics of pinching and shaping, while incorporating a variety of textures such as carving, stamping, and rolling to enhance their designs. Emphasis will be placed experimenting with different patterns, textures, and surface treatments. By the end of the class, students will have crafted their own expressive, one-of-a-kind pinch pots (up to 3 or 5), gaining a deeper appreciation for the tactile process of pottery and a better understanding of how texture enhances the form and aesthetic of ceramic works.

Create your very own whimsical gnome! In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn the art of needle felting, using colorful wool roving to craft charming gnome figures. Our instructor will guide you through every step, from shaping the body to adding delightful details like hats and beards. Perfect for beginners or anyone looking to explore a new craft, this class is a fun way to relax and make a unique, handmade decoration!

We will focus on crafting three vibrant, small May baskets. Guided by your instructor, participants will learn a traditional weaving technique using an array of colorful natural reeds to create square-to-round baskets with handles. Use your creativity to perfect these charming, one-of-a-kind celebratory May baskets...still a tradition in Downeast Maine. No experience necessary.

This handcrafted 10x14x22 picnic basket features a classic design with a single sturdy handle for easy transport. The woven natural reed basket provides ample space for packing your picnic essentials and is perfect for outdoor outings, family gatherings, or as a charming storage solution. You can also add some colored reed to distinguish your basket. 

Learn techniques to repair and transform worn items into unique, functional pieces. Using colorful threads, patches, and embroidery, we'll explore the art of visible mending, fostering a mindful approach to reusing and recycling fabric. This hands-on experience encourages patience, self-expression, and environmental awareness. Whether you're a beginner or skilled crafter, bring your favorite items in need of repair and discover how mending can bring new life to your wardrobe while promoting a conscious, eco-friendly lifestyle. 

Your instructor, Mary Laury, is an accomplished watercolorist and highly esteemedteacher. She encourages all her students to believe they can be successful. Painting isan exciting medium; it flows and moves and does beautiful things. If you have neverpainted in watercolors, we will start at the beginning. If you have painted before, you willpick up some new tips and tricks as well. We all learn together!

Paint flower portraits realistically. You will paint pictures of flowers in detail, but more painterly than a scientific illustration. We won’t count veins, but we will count petals! Painting flowers is a wonderful exercise in observation.

Learn brush stroke and value; white on white flowers; leaves, long and short; iris, narcissus, orchids, tulips, and other spring flowers.

We will paint on smooth paper; Strathmore Series 500, one hundred percent cotton paper, either plate or vellum. This paper can be bought at Artist and Craftsman in Portland in large sheets, which we will cut up.

Bring a #2 round brush and a #6 round brush, pencil, palette, tube watercolors in the 3 primary colors and perhaps a green. Paper towels and water container. And bring a plant or flower specimen with no more than 9 petals. This is a slow and careful process and 9 petals and some leaves is enough happiness for us all.

Not a group of musicians. This band is a narrow strong weaving such as a belt, guitar strap, decoration or shoelace. Band weaving spans simple, quick techniques to incredibly complex. We will start by weaving a small band on a backstrap loom. Students then design their own project to take home. We will talk about the looms for bands such as inkle, rigid heddle and tablets. All materials provided. A $7 materials fee is payable to the instructor at class.
