Maine Driving Dynamics

The Maine Driving Dynamics course is a driver improvement course that is designed to improve a student's defensive driving awareness. This five-hour course includes discussion of collision avoidance techniques, safety issues, driver habits and attitudes, and the basic elements that constantly challenge drivers on Maine's highways. Our goal is to save lives, prevent injuries, and reduce vehicle-related crashes. A student who completes the course will receive a three-point credit on their driving record and may be eligible for insurance discount. Please bring your driver’s license.
Gourd Bowl with Pine Needle Rim and Introduction to Birch Bark Baskets

Two classes in one!
Make a gourd basket. Perfect for a gift or to keep for yourself. Gourds will be pre-cut. Students will need to clean gourds, sand, and drill holes. Then we will sew white pine needles to the rim. We will be able to pick from a number of stains to finish the gourds. Gourds are around 4-5” in diameter. During this class, we will also go over the basics of making pine needle baskets. This is another great class to learn a skill for life.
Also learn how to make your own birch bark basket. We will head into the woods to identify trees, learn how to collect the bark from down trees, how to process the bark, and finally how to make a basket.
Small Accordion Book

Students will learn the technique of folding paper into a continuous accordion structure and explore creative ways to decorate and personalize their books, experimenting with various designs, colors, and embellishments. By the end of the class, everyone will have a unique, compact book to display or fill with sketches, stories, or photographs. Perfect for beginners and seasoned crafters alike, this workshop fosters creativity and introduces a timeless bookbinding technique. Students should bring a $10 materials fee payable to the instructor.
Nature Journaling

Nature journaling is a creative and reflective practice that involves observing the natural world and recording your experiences through writing, drawing, and sketching. In this class, students will be introduced to watercolor journaling, capturing nature on paper using pen and ink and watercolors. We’ll first spend some time honing our drawing skills and learn about the properties of watercolor painting. Then we’ll work in our watercolor journals sketching and painting the natural world around us. Students should bring a $10 materials fee payable to the instructor.
